Fridays at the TLV are wine trivia day. It’s been a long week, Friday has finally arrived, and all you can think about is getting your weekend started. Well I think the best way to start the weekend is to get your mind ready to open that cool, delicious bottle of wine you have waiting for you at home. The weekly wine trivia quiz consists of 5 questions and I try not to make them too difficult, it is Friday after all. Of course even the most friendly of contests is better with competition so be sure to fill out your name when you are done to see where you stack on the leader-board.

I also want to apologize to everyone for not having a trivia post last week. Things got away from me and there were other priorities that took precedent. I will do everything I can to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

The Stanley Cup of Wine finals are here. It all comes down to a Washington Cab vs a Rhone style blend. Will the king of the grapes reign supreme, or will the upstart Grenache blend take down another big name? Only your vote can decide.
Reminder of how the Stanley Cup of Wine works
Cast your votes for your favorite wines based on the wine descriptions provided. Voting will last for 1 week at which point the champion will be crowned. I will then purchase 2 bottles of that wine. I will taste one for a future show, and the other will be awarded to 1 lucky entrant. You will get one entry when you submit your email address for winner notification purposes.
The Finals
Abeja Cabernet Sauvignon vs ”The Melody” Red Rhône Blend
3. Abeja Cabernet Sauvignon (Washington Capitals) - Medium red. Enticing aromas of currant, cherry, mocha, lavender and sweet oak. Lush, suave and seamless, with mineral and spice notes giving definition to the middle palate and leavening the impression of volume. Finishes uncompromisingly dry, subtle and long, with captivating perfume and perfectly integrated tannins.
4.”The Melody” Red Rhône Blend (St. Louis Blues) - A classically styled Grenache based Rhône blend featuring Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Counoise, and Petite Sirah as the complementary grapes. Like a well-played violin, the bigger more opulent notes of raspberry and bing cherry are layered with softer notes of sweet vanilla, clove and gentle spice. A light hint of black pepper and Herbs de Provence harmoniously complete the melody.
Some extra focus on wines from the southern hemisphere in this week’s wine trivia, along with a beer and sake question. Have a great wine weekend everyone!
